“Her Middle Name Is Joy”

Some babies are cheerful from the start. They are happy to be alive and wave at every stranger they see. Others are afraid of being abandoned, hungry, or cold. Joy was one of these until she discovered the magic of her own thoughts. While she didn’t have the power to make her parents happy, she did possess an amazing ability. She started playing a game. Like an explorer seeking new lands, Joy hunted happiness. It could be a butterfly, a sunrise, puppy breath, or a friend next door.

Every day she placed her focus on at least one object or thought that triggered feelings of happiness. Soon, the universe conspired to support her hunt for happiness. She saw it everywhere she looked!

Joy realized unhappy things happened, such as her father losing his job or a boyfriend moving out of town. She decided that no condition or event would rob her of happiness. She wouldn’t let that happen!

Her parents gave her two names at birth. By her 20s, Joy gave herself a third and placed it in the middle of a name she was proud to carry.

I see Janeann Drawing

She might not see herself as I do. I see her in all her shiny youth, full of wonder and intention. I see her soft, tender heart. I see her sharp mind and active thoughts.

Most of all, I see the light emanating from Janeann; the light that no thought can diminish, no disappointment can dim, and no fear can erase.

I see the light that IS Janeann and pray that she sees it too.

The Wild Heart Drawings

In the mirror, she sees her grandmother staring back at her; grey hair, wrinkled skin and all. Young men open doors as she approaches. Drivers wave and wait for her to cross the street. Yet, in her heart, the woman lives wild and free, ready for whatever adventure life brings. Her ageless heart is like an instrument vibrating to the tune of her Divine Self.

In the mirror, she sees her grandmother. In her heart, she sees God’s beloved, a spark of the divine free of all earthly limitations.

Never be fooled by appearances. The old woman beside you might possess a wild heart ready to light the sky on fire.

The Queen

The Queen claims her wealth with a statement of her truth:

I feel all that is deep and rich and true. It has always been my desire. I am free to be the deep, rich home of my belonging. It is here for me to experience.  It is mine. I claim it. Grief is not the only road to the depths of experience. It is the one I traveled and now I am free.

There is also ecstasy, joy, and community. It is the calling from cathedrals and communion—the deep mystical truths that I am free to own and touch as my own. When I connect with my ancestors, it is those of heart and soul. They danced under the full moon, they prayed in chant, they whispered God’s name with every step. These are my ancestors. They call me and I feel at home. My answer? Yes, please, thank you.

I am rich—the rich Queen. My riches belong to me and I experience them now. I am the rich Queen of great value and depth and wisdom. I am the rich Queen here and now. My riches are here. I own them; I claim them. I say, yes, please. Thank you. I choose rich now.

She Has Style--Drawing

She Has a Style All Her Own

She has a style all her own and she knows it. Every morning she awakens with anticipation. What will she express today? She takes a few minutes before the mirror asking: what in me wants to be acknowledged or appreciated today? Before she knows it, she receives an answer. It might be in the form of a feeling in her body, a thought, a memory, or an urge to take action.

She styles her hair in a way it wants. She dresses in clothes that call to her from the closet. Some days, she is a warrior princess, other times she is a priestess or rebel. She knows these energies are all an expression of parts of her being. She embraces all she is. Her style is total, unconditional acceptance of self.

She has style and she knows it.

She's Unique

She’s unique and glad for it. She is designed for service, sensitivity and leadership. Don’t look for her to lead an army or a journey to the moon. She leads a different way.

She leads from a tune playing deep within her being. Every cell knows the tune and vibrates to a frequency all her own.

She’s unique and loves herself for it. She leads by example. She blesses the world and feels blessed in return. She loves the world and knows she is loved. She holds the space for all to thrive. As a result, she, too, thrives.

She cultivates the still mind and the constant heart. Her light shines through the darkness that others may be led to their own light.

She is unique and glad for it.

The disciple makes a space for the divine to shine. To many, she looks like a failure. Her life is not burdened with stuff, with so many responsibilities and material things that there is no space for the divine.

She opens every aspect of her life for the divine to find a home. What is the most important of all? She does not judge the appearance of her life and welcomes the divine to have a seat.
