Oil & Cold Wax Portrait

She Found Freedom

You might think life begins with birth and ends with death, yet there is so much more. The past is not dead and gone. It lives in our DNA like seeds germinating and sprouting in their own perfect season.

This is a portrait of Minnie May, my great-grandmother. Like most Americans, she didn’t know her own history. She didn’t know she came from a long line of freedom fighters and seekers. As Huguenots and early followers of Martin Luther, they fled France, settled in England and later in the American colonies. The believed as did revolutionary, Thomas Paine: “You have it within your power to begin the world over again.”

Minnie May was a follower of Mary Baker Eddy, a free thinker if there ever was one. Eddy believed that thoughts created matter and right thinking brings about the healing of mind, body and spirit.

Minnie May had freedom in her bones. She must have felt it! She carried the DNA of centuries of freedom seekers. Now, their DNA lives in me. I have been imprinted for freedom by the medieval Chevalier, the knights, lords and ladies, pastors and pioneers.

I speak their names out loud—William Morin de Landon, Lord William Landon, Deacon Langton, Thomas Kilbourn who landed in Plymouth in 1635…

I carry them further than they could have imagined into a new world where the only limit is our own mind.

The Client Painting

The Client's Reflection

When I speak with a client, I share how I see them, not how they see themselves in the mirror. This is what I say:

I see you as a newborn sliding into your father’s arms. I see you on your deathbed with one tear of gratitude sliding down your cheek. I see you as spirit, a brilliant light joining the Light of God like a drop of water returning to the sea.

Whole. Perfect. Complete.

When you speak of challenges, lack or longing, I hear your words as a refrain fading into the distance. I hold the vision of your perfection. All I see is love. All I feel is love, for love is all you are in every moment of your existence, in every stage of your life.

You are light.
You are love.
You are a complete and perfect expression of Source.
Here. Now. Always.

This is what my clients get when they speak with me—a mirror reflecting their brilliance so they may see themselves in the garden of God’s love.

Human Landscape Sketch

Human Landscape

I love the human face, a landscape revealing thoughts, beliefs, and intention. The planes of the face connect, lift and fall according to thoughts held steady. A child’s face is like a landscape after a flood or heavy rain—all fresh and smooth with paths washed clean, all ready for discovery.

The face of a beauty is like a mirror reflecting the desires and wishes of the viewer. The planes, dips, and curves made harmonious with light, makeup and practice.

The greatest beauty is a landscape of contrasting, defined planes and textures showing the love of adventure, travel and paths well-worn.

The face, which I love, is a landscape revealing life’s imprint. This is the most beautiful of all.

Whisper in the Garden Painting

A Whisper in the Garden

Oh, let us speak of love, for that is the very heart of you. To serve the world is to be the world’s lover. It is to see the light of Christ, the divine in every face.

You know the feelings your have for your mate, children, friends and pets? You can feel that way about every being on the planet.

I call you to be lover of the world, to be patient when it would be easier to rush ahead, to be kind when it would be easier to judge, to give of yourself with no regard for outcome. When you love me, you love the world. As I am the heart-center of every being, you can love everyone as you love me.

Love is your path. Love is your redemption. I will be with you always, here, in this garden of our love.

She Hears the Temple Bells Ring

She Hears the Temple Bells detail

Temple bells ring out in the thin dawn. Her attention is called to the universe within. Temple bells call the self to prayer, a meeting with the soul. She sets her intention for the upcoming day—that every moment might be filled with blessings, right action and a grateful heart.

She hears the temple bells. Though her only adornment is the flowers in her hair, she feels rich beyond measure.

where she stands

The painting is vertical, yet I love this detail with an orientation that reminds me of a reclining buddha.

The Evolving Painting

Our Lady of the Garden

Love. Love. Love-- a mantra worth living. Do only what you love. Create only what you love. Live with people you love. Work with people you love. Hold yourself in a space of unconditional love.

I liked my 24” x 24” painting, She Brings the Spring, but I didn’t love her. Propped up in the corner of my studio, she seemed pale as if she were trying to mimic wallpaper and avoid being noticed.

Instead of obscuring her image beneath opaque paint, I led her into a garden. I wrapped her in translucent layers of acrylic glaze and decorated her with original, linocut mono prints. Now, she sees with the eyes of love. All is beauty. She sees only love.

Is this possible in a violent world? For thousands of years, saints and mystics have managed to see love and light, hope and faith where others saw only sand. There is a way to see the beauty and love surrounding you.

Beneath the veneer of diverse colors, languages, tightly-held beliefs, you find one species, one people, whose dreams and desires are more alike than different. You find yourself in a garden of love when you peel back the illusion of separation.

I will meet you in the garden
We will shed our skin
Leave our old bodies and look on them
Our new ones could be anything

New Painting-Peace Grows

Peace Grows in the Garden

Opportunities come. Opportunities fade. My hair turns grey, my body soft. Yet, peace grows in the garden of my heart as it never did before. I turned the corner on my youth and am glad for it. I’m no longer driven by desire for what is not on my path.

My heart is soft, fertile ground, where God plants seeds of gratitude and love. While youth was full of discontent, I am now full of appreciation for the love and beauty all around me, for my very being.

Flowers grow in my garden. I feed them with happy thoughts and loving care. As they grow, they remind me that life is always growing and expanding. Peace is mine to choose.

“Today I bathe in the blue light of peace.”
